Microduck
Pollen Robotics
Microduck is a tiny biped duck robot developed by Pollen Robotics. It measures about 25 cm and weighs about 800 g. It is an open-source hardware and software project (Apache-2.0) intended for robotics research and development, and it moves using reinforcement-learning policies.
At its core is a Rockchip RK3566 processor driving fifteen servos in a 50 Hz control loop. Its equipment includes a camera, a Time-of-Flight (ToF) depth sensor and radio connectivity. The robot supports multiple locomotion modes: walking, rolling, grasping and standing up after being knocked over.
The software is written entirely in Rust with no external framework, in a modular daemon architecture communicating via JSON-RPC over Unix sockets. Motion policies are trained in the MuJoCo simulator with PPO (Proximal Policy Optimization) and exported to ONNX. Pollen Robotics manufactures and sells finished units.
