Positioning and availability
UBTECH Walker X is an advanced humanoid service robot developed by Chinese company UBTECH Robotics. Available commercially, it targets customer service, smart home, healthcare and education applications. Walker X integrates six AI technologies — including upgraded vision-based navigation and hand-eye coordination — enabling autonomous operation in human environments.
Mechanical structure
The robot stands 130 cm tall and weighs 63 kg. It has 41 degrees of freedom: 6 per leg (12 total), 7 per arm (14 total), 6 per hand (12 total), and 3 in the neck. High-performance servo joints deliver 4.5–200 Nm torque. Single-arm payload in extended state (600 mm) is 1.5 kg; the robot maintains balance while loaded with 10 kg or carrying 3 kg per hand while walking.
Locomotion and mobility
Walker X walks at up to 3 km/h. A new foot posture control algorithm enables walking on gravel, tiles, thick carpet, and lawn. The robot climbs and descends stairs up to 15 cm step height, handles 3 cm terrain irregularities, and traverses slopes up to 20°. Advanced balance control provides robust response to external disturbances.
U-SLAM navigation and perception
The U-SLAM system combines visual and 3D navigation. Localisation accuracy: 10 cm (standard), 20 cm (navigation), 1 cm (fine). A four-camera system and dual RGBD sensors provide 360° environmental perception. FPV AR navigation and 2.5D obstacle avoidance enable robust autonomous navigation in dynamic scenes.
Interaction and emotional intelligence
The robot face features a 4.6K HD 160° flexible curved display showing 28+ native robot emotions. Multi-modal interaction systems cover vision, hearing, touch and environmental perception. A 4-dimensional light language system and proactive interaction emulate human communication and user empathy.
Compute and connectivity
Compute is provided by dual Intel Core i7-8665U processors (1.9 GHz) and an NVIDIA GT1030 GPU (384 CUDA cores). OS: Ubuntu with PREEMPT_RT and Android. Robotics framework: ROSA (Robot Open-platform Software Architecture). Connectivity: Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n dual-band (2.4/5 GHz), Gigabit Ethernet RJ45, EtherCAT real-time bus, USB 3.0. Lithium battery 54.6 V / 10 Ah provides ~2 h operation; charge time ~2 h.
