Apollo is a general-purpose humanoid robot developed by Apptronik, an American company based in Austin, Texas. The robot stands 172 cm tall, weighs 73 kg, and is designed for industrial environments — warehouses, factories, and logistics. Apptronik was founded in 2016 as a spin-off from the Human Centered Robotics Lab at the University of Texas at Austin.
Apollo uses linear series-elastic actuators with force sensors that allow the robot to safely collaborate with humans and execute precise grasping motions. The flat chest design houses swappable battery packs enabling 4-hour operation between charging cycles (hot-swap).
The robot is being developed in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz, GXO Logistics, and NASA. Initial commercial deployments began in 2024. Apollo uses an AI stack delivered through a partnership with Google DeepMind (announced March 2025).
