DEEP Robotics X20
DEEP Robotics
Positioning and applications
DEEP Robotics X20 is an industrial-grade quadruped robot designed for autonomous inspection and patrol under extreme environmental conditions. The manufacturer — DEEP Robotics (Hangzhou Yunshenshu Technology Co., Ltd.) — positions the X20 as a leading solution for: power & utilities (HV line and substation inspection), rescue operations, tunnels (metro, rail infrastructure), metal & mining, and construction. The robot is commercially deployed with customers worldwide, including Singapore and East Asia.
Mechanical architecture
The X20 is a quadruped with a 12 DOF layout (3 DOF per leg: hip abduction, hip flexion, knee). Standing dimensions: 950 × 470 × 700 mm, mass 53 kg. Frame and housings are made from aerospace aluminium and composites, delivering an industrial-class strength-to-weight ratio. The robot clears obstacles and steps ≥20 cm and slopes ≥30°, making it capable of inspection in open terrain, on stairs and in low-visibility spaces.
Drive and kinematics
Each leg uses electrically actuated joints based on PMSM motors with integrated encoders. Maximum speed ≥4 m/s at gallop. Motion control combines MPC (Model Predictive Control) with reinforcement-learning (RL) policies, ensuring stability on unstructured terrain — grass, gravel, snow, puddles and stairs.
Perception and navigation
X20 is equipped with multimodal perception sensors: 3D LiDAR (optionally RoboSense RS-LiDAR-32 or Velodyne 32-channel), stereo/RGB-D cameras for obstacle detection and terrain recognition, and an industrial-grade IMU. The compute platform supports: precise GNSS/SLAM navigation, autonomous obstacle avoidance, terrain recognition and human–robot interaction. Mission range up to 15 km on a single charge.
Payload and modularity
X20 carries up to 20 kg of payload on its back. The modular design enables mounting of multiple peripherals: inspection cameras, manipulators, gas sensors, thermal imagers, millimeter-wave radars, etc. A rich set of interfaces (USB, Ethernet, CAN, RS-485, UART) allows integration of third-party hardware without frame modification.
Environmental resilience
The robot carries an IP66 ingress protection rating — complete dust protection and resistance to powerful water jets — enabling operation in rain, mud and industrial dust. It operates in extreme temperatures (detailed range not published by the manufacturer, but verified in power utility and mining deployments).
Power
Lithium-ion battery with 2–4 h endurance (depending on payload and terrain) and up to 15 km range. Wired charging. Battery management system (BMS) with online monitoring.
Software and integration
Development platform: Jueying SDK (C++/Python, official DEEP Robotics SDK). ROS 1 (Melodic) and ROS 2 (Humble) support. Autonomous inspection missions handled by the built-in SLAM/navigation stack. The robot supports remote control (gamepad, mobile app), teleoperation and fully autonomous mode. OTA firmware updates.
Market position
DEEP Robotics X20 competes directly with Boston Dynamics Spot, ANYbotics ANYmal D and Unitree B2 in the industrial field-inspection segment. It stands out for: the highest payload (20 kg) and range (15 km) in its class, IP66 rating, and a price point below Western equivalents. The company closed a Series C financing round of over 500 million RMB in December 2024, accelerating global expansion.
