Overview

Grok 4.5 is a general-purpose model released on 9 July 2026, aimed at coding, app building, office work, research and writing. xAI positions it as an Opus-class model — in Elon Musk's words “roughly comparable to Claude Opus 4.7, but much faster.” Its core selling point is capability-to-price ratio: 2 USD per million input tokens and 6 USD per million output tokens, i.e. 2.5x cheaper on input and over 4x cheaper on output than Claude Opus 4.7 (5 USD / 25 USD). The company also claims “twice the token efficiency” of competitors, a figure not yet independently verified. Both the benchmarks and the efficiency claims come from xAI itself rather than independent labs.
