Walmart Agent Gateway
Walmart's agentic-commerce gateway (an MCP server) that lets approved AI agents search inventory and buy on behalf of customers across Walmart and Sam's Club.
Description
Walmart Agent Gateway is an agentic-commerce gateway launched by Walmart on 21 October 2026. It is a server compatible with the Model Context Protocol (MCP, originally created by Anthropic) that lets approved AI agents connect to Walmart, search its online inventory and make purchases on behalf of the user. It supports agentic shopping across both Walmart and Sam's Club, and customers do not have to share personal information or purchase history with the agent.
The platform is accompanied by Agent Profiles — dedicated profiles in which a customer authorizes each AI agent on their account, separates the agent's purchases from their own, and sets how transactions are approved: either requiring approval for each transaction or authorizing spending within a set limit. A profile is created the first time a given agent is used through the gateway and can be deleted at any time; it is available to anyone with a Walmart account, with no Walmart+ membership required. Agent Profiles begin rolling out to customer accounts in November 2026.
Walmart also introduced dedicated terms for AI agents: an agent cannot take actions beyond the shopper's intent, cannot access the customer's payment information, and can only access the information needed for the task, while the standard returns process applies even when an agent does not act as intended. Agents that violate the terms are blocked. Earlier, Walmart had announced a partnership with Meta's Muse agent and integrations with AI apps including ChatGPT and Gemini.
