Grok is a general-purpose AI assistant developed by xAI, the company founded by Elon Musk in 2023. The system launched in November 2023 as a feature for X Premium subscribers and, in December 2024, gained a public free tier and a standalone app at grok.com. It is currently available as a web app, a mobile app (iOS and Android), an integrated experience within the X platform and via the xAI API.

The assistant is powered by the Grok model family (Grok-3, Grok-4 and derivative variants). It acts as a conversational chatbot with access to up-to-date information from the X platform and the web. It offers a reasoning mode (Think), deep search (DeepSearch), image generation (via the Aurora model), a voice mode and so-called Companions. The business plan adds team workspaces and administrative controls.
