Basic physical properties of Unitree Dex5-S — dimensions, weight and materials
The Unitree Dex5-S is a five-finger dexterous robotic hand unveiled by Unitree Robotics on 21 September 2026. It is designed at 1:1 human-hand scale and intended for precise manipulation, grasping and tool handling on humanoid robots.
The hand provides 22 degrees of freedom driven by 22 motors. All joints support direct drive, backdrivable operation and dual-encoder control, and each joint includes protection against extreme impact torque. Compared with the earlier Dex5, a little-finger roll degree of freedom was added, improving overall hand dexterity.
The hand weighs about 620 g and uses an aluminum-alloy housing. The stated single-hand payload is 2 kg maximum and 1 kg continuous. Pricing starts at CNY 39,900 in China (from USD 6,500 outside China). The tactile-sensing configuration and full technical data were not officially published at launch; a tactile-sensing variant is offered separately.
