Wittenstein alpha LP+ is the flagship series of precision inline planetary gearboxes from Wittenstein Alpha (Germany). The LP+ (Low Backlash Plus) series offers an excellent balance between backlash (<=4 arc-min), torsional stiffness, and high mechanical efficiency (97-99%), making it the preferred choice for high-precision positioning applications.
Available sizes: LP+ 050 to LP+ 280 (designation equals flange diameter in mm). Gear ratios: 3:1, 4:1, 5:1, 7:1, 8:1, 10:1 (single stage) and up to 100:1 (two stage). Output torque: 30 Nm (LP+ 050) to 1350 Nm (LP+ 280). Weight: 0.35-26 kg. Operating temperature: -15 to +90 degrees C. IP65 sealing standard.
The LP+ mounts directly to servo motors via Wittenstein adapter system (compatible with all major brands). Used in packaging machines, industrial printers, textile machines, Cartesian robots, and linear axes. Hygienic stainless/FDA version available for food industry.

Which group Wittenstein alpha LP+ belongs to and how it is built
This subcategory covers components responsible for highly accurate torque transmission and speed reduction in robots, manipulators, and joint modules.
A planetary gearbox is a mechanical transmission that uses a planetary gear arrangement to achieve high gear ratios within a compact form factor. In robotics, it is commonly used in axis drives, manipulators, mobile modules, and actuator assemblies where high torque is required in constrained mounting spaces. Planetary gearboxes are valued for their power density, rigidity, and compactness.
