(NASDAQ: META), a company headquartered at 1 Meta Way in Menlo Park, California. The division was founded in December 2013 by Yann LeCun as Facebook Artificial Intelligence Research (FAIR). Following Facebook's rebranding to Meta Platforms in October 2021, the division adopted the name Meta AI. In June 2025, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a reorganization of the AI divisions into a new structure called Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL), encompassing FAIR, TBD Lab (led by AI director Alexander Wang from Scale AI), Products and Applied Research, and MSL Infra. Key products include: the Llama model family (1–4, from February 2023), released as open source with over 1 billion downloads by March 2025; the Meta AI assistant integrated across Meta platforms with over 1 billion monthly active users (October 2025, per Meta's statements); the SAM 2 (Segment Anything) model for visual segmentation; and the Movie Gen model for video generation. Llama 4 Scout and Maverick, released on April 5, 2025, employ a Mixture of Experts (MoE) architecture and native multimodality. Meta Platforms spent $39.2 billion in capital expenditures (CapEx) in 2024, primarily related to AI infrastructure, and raised its 2025 CapEx guidance to $66–72 billion. Meta FAIR is also the creator of the PyTorch framework (2017), which was transferred to the Linux Foundation in 2022. In total, Meta Platforms, Inc. employed 74,067 people as of the end of 2024, according to the 10-K report filed with the SEC.
