The firm was founded in 2017 by Jordan Jacobs (Managing Partner), Tomi Poutanen and Maks Volkovs - the creators of Layer 6 AI (acquired by TD Bank) and co-founders of the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence, with which the firm maintains close institutional ties. Radical Ventures invests across stages, from early rounds to scale-ups, focusing on startups building and using AI ('AI eats software'). According to available sources the firm manages roughly $1.8B in assets and raised a dedicated AI fund of nearly $800M. Its portfolio includes Cohere, Waabi, Writer, TwelveLabs, Reka, Hebbia, Genesis Therapeutics, Aspect Biosystems, Muon Space, CentML and You.com. The firm is strongly connected to the AI research community - leading scientists such as Geoffrey Hinton and Fei-Fei Li are publicly associated with it. Radical Ventures is also one of the investors in Discovery Loop.
