The Robotics and AI Institute (RAI Institute), known until 2024 as the Boston Dynamics AI Institute, is a US research institute founded in 2022 by Marc Raibert, the founder of Boston Dynamics. Funded by Hyundai Motor Group, the institute researches future generations of robots that are smarter, more agile and easier to use. Its five core research areas are dexterous manipulation, advanced learning for control, data-driven AI models for physical robot interaction, navigation in challenging environments, and the ethics of robots in society. It is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with offices in Zurich and Tokyo.
