Sony Group Corporation (ソニーグループ株式会社) is a Japanese multinational conglomerate headquartered at Sony City in the Minato ward of Tokyo. The company was founded on 7 May 1946 by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita as Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo (Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation); it adopted the name Sony Corporation in 1958 and was reorganized into the holding company Sony Group Corporation on 1 April 2021. The group operates across segments: Game & Network Services (PlayStation, Sony Interactive Entertainment), Music (Sony Music), Pictures (Sony Pictures), Entertainment, Technology & Services (consumer electronics, professional products), Imaging & Sensing Solutions (Sony Semiconductor Solutions — CMOS image sensors), and Financial Services. In AI and robotics, Sony develops the autonomous aibo robot and image sensors with on-edge AI processing, and conducts research through its Sony AI division. The company is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (code 6758) and the New York Stock Exchange (symbol SONY).
