Sony IMX586
The Sony IMX586 is a stacked CMOS image sensor from the Exmor RS family. It offers an effective resolution of 48 megapixels at a 1/2-inch optical format with a 0.8 µm pixel size — one of the smallest pixels among sensors of this class at launch.
The sensor uses a Quad Bayer color filter in which four adjacent pixels share the same color. This enables full 48 MP resolution in good light and pixel binning down to 12 MP in low light. The sensor is used in smartphone cameras and in commercial camera modules, including Luxonis OAK-FFC modules.

Which group Sony IMX586 belongs to and how it is built
CMOS image sensors are integrated circuits built from a grid of photodiodes (pixels) that convert incoming light into electric charge and then into a digital image. In robotics and vision systems they are the heart of RGB cameras and perception modules. Modern variants use BSI (back-side illumination) and stacked construction (pixel and logic layers stacked vertically) for higher sensitivity and faster readout.
A "CMOS image sensor" component refers to the sensor die/chip itself, not a complete camera module. Integrators pair it with a lens, an image signal processor (ISP) and an interface (e.g. MIPI CSI-2). Key parameters are optical format, pixel size, effective resolution and the color filter array.
