Droid TW 12.7 (Tracked Wolly 12.7) is a reconnaissance-strike unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) manufactured by the Ukrainian company DevDroid. The platform combines a tracked chassis with high off-road capability, a modular Wolly 12.7 combat module carrying an M2 Browning 12.7 mm heavy machine gun, and the universal Droid Box control system, which gives the operator a link up to 100 km via Starlink or LTE.
Design and armament
The tracked chassis provides mobility in mud, snow, on destroyed roads and in mined terrain — environments typical of the Ukrainian front. The Wolly 12.7 module is a remotely operated combat turret (Remote Weapon Station) specifically adapted for the M2 Browning 12.7 mm machine gun, complemented by the DevDroid DD-M2-S1 electric trigger. The 12.7 mm calibre delivers effective engagement against both light armored vehicles and field fortifications.
Control: Droid Box
Droid Box is DevDroid's proprietary operating system. The minimalist interface presents the operator with all critical parameters — position, module status, camera feeds and sensor data — without information overload. Stable connectivity is provided by Starlink terminals (LEO satellite) and LTE networks, with control range up to 100 km from the operator. This enables deep reconnaissance and strikes on the enemy rear without exposing soldiers directly in the fire zone.
Combat role and tactics
Droid TW 12.7 is designed for two complementary roles: combat reconnaissance (identifying enemy positions, confirming targets marked by aerial drones) and strike (fire support, clearing fortifications, securing own positions). DevDroid uses a tactic that combines UGVs with reconnaissance drones: the drones detect targets (often at night), and the UGV operator drives the robot to complete the task from up to 100 km away. The platform can also serve as a communication relay, extending the range of other unmanned systems.
Ukrainian context
Droid TW 12.7 is part of the Ukrainian mass UGV deployment program — in April 2026, President Zelensky signed an order for 50,000 units by end of 2026, three times more than throughout 2025. Robocikowo and IEEE Spectrum identify 2026 as the 'year of the strike UGV': ground robots are starting to replace soldiers in logistics, evacuation and — from this year — in direct assault. DevDroid, alongside Rovertech (ZMIY), is one of the key domestic manufacturers of this program.
