Gene.01 is a humanoid robot developed by Generative Bionics — an Italian deep-tech startup. It is a bipedal, general-purpose humanoid designed for industrial applications and safe collaboration with people, publicly unveiled at CES 2026.
A defining feature of Gene.01 is full-body tactile “smart skin” — distributed force and proximity sensors let the robot sense the presence of workers before any physical contact occurs, enabling safe shared-workspace collaboration. The robot has a customizable exterior and interchangeable end effectors (hands and feet).
Its control system is based on a “physics-native AI” / “Physical AI” approach, and on-board compute runs on AMD hardware. Generative Bionics released an open-source digital twin of the robot, and the entire platform was built in six months.
Gene.01 is, as the company puts it, “the first seed of a new lineage of humanoid robots” optimized for different industrial use cases while preserving a coherent identity in form, behaviour and interaction. Its first use case is a welding humanoid for the Fincantieri shipyards; development was backed by an $81 million seed round.
Compute, power, connectivity and robot features
