Next-generation XPENG IRON humanoid robot unveiled at 2025 AI Day

XPENG IRON is a humanoid robot from Chinese electric-vehicle maker XPENG (XPeng Robotics). The first generation was unveiled on 8 November 2024 at AI Day, and a next generation on 5 November 2025 at 2025 AI Day.

The next-generation IRON features a humanoid (bionic) spine, bionic muscles, flexible skin and a 3D curved display on its head. Its hand has 22 degrees of freedom (DOF), and passive degrees of freedom at the toes give it a light, fluid, human-like stride, shown in a catwalk-style demo.

The robot is powered by XPENG's second-generation VLA (Vision-Language-Action) model and three in-house Turing AI chips delivering a combined 2,250 TOPS. IRON uses all-solid-state batteries for lower weight, higher energy density and improved safety.

It can hold a conversation, walk and interact. XPENG released an SDK for developers, and Chinese steelmaker Baosteel became an ecosystem partner, with IRON to be deployed for industrial tasks such as inspection. The first generation already works on XPENG's production lines assembling the P7+. The company targets mass production of advanced robots by the end of 2026, with commercialization from 2027.
