Shopify Inc. is a Canadian technology company running a cloud e-commerce platform (SaaS) that lets merchants sell online and in-person (including POS systems). It was founded in 2006 by Tobias Lutke, Daniel Weinand and Scott Lake - after Lutke built the Snowdevil online store. It is headquartered in Ottawa (Ontario, Canada); its CEO is Tobias Lutke and its president Harley Finkelstein. The company is listed under the ticker SHOP (Nasdaq and TSX; moved from the NYSE to Nasdaq in March 2025). For fiscal 2025 Shopify reported about $11.6B in revenue (~30% YoY growth), with roughly 7,600 employees; in 2024 the platform processed $292.3B in gross merchandise volume (GMV). In artificial intelligence, Shopify develops Shopify Magic (generative AI features for merchants, e.g. product descriptions), the Sidekick assistant, and in 2026 announced a Universal Commerce Protocol enabling AI agents to discover stores and transact. Shopify is listed among AI companies' partners (including Liquid AI).
