Osaka Metro (大阪市高速電気軌道株式会社, Osaka Metro Co., Ltd.) is a Japanese subway operator serving Osaka and its surrounding area. The joint-stock company was incorporated on 1 June 2017 by the City of Osaka to take over the rail operations of the Osaka Municipal Transportation Bureau, and began operating on 1 April 2018 following privatization. The metro network itself has run since 1933. The company is wholly owned by the City of Osaka. It runs 8 subway lines and 1 AGT line (the New Tram), plus a BRT service (Imazato Liner), on-demand buses, and real-estate, in-station retail and travel businesses. Its capital is 250 billion yen; consolidated revenue is about 202.9 billion yen and net income about 29.5 billion yen. Its president (代表取締役社長) is Keiji Kakumoto. In robotics and AI, Osaka Metro deploys facial recognition at fare gates and — with KDDI and AVITA — a Google Gemini-powered humanoid station attendant based on a humanoid design by Prof. Hiroshi Ishiguro (pilot launched 31 August 2026).
